Discreet Recovery from Cosmetic Surgery

If you鈥檝e had cosmetic surgery at NYU Langone and would prefer to spend the first days of recovery in a private setting, our discreet medical staff can reserve a hotel room for you near our surgery center, along with a private nurse to care for you for one or two days. This ensures that you recover under the care of a healthcare professional, who can ensure your comfort and remove the bandages and drainage tubes after 24 hours. Our staff can also arrange for a private car to bring you from the surgery center to a hotel.

After one or two days, you return for a follow-up visit, so your doctor can examine the incisions and ensure that your skin is healing normally. At this time, you can return home.

Sun Protection

Exposure to direct sunlight is a common cause of age spots, wrinkles, and fine lines. Our doctors recommend limiting the amount of time you spend in the sun to protect your skin from damage.

To prevent UV light from aging your skin, doctors recommend avoiding exposure to the sun between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm, when rays are strongest. Walk or bike on the shady side of the street and avoid putting your arm out the window of the car and in direct sunlight. While riding in a car, it鈥檚 important to be aware that any UV light that shines on your skin through the glass is just as powerful as if you were outside.

When you spend time outside, doctors recommend applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. One application of sunscreen is effective for about two hours. You should reapply the sunscreen if you spend more than two hours in the sun or go swimming.

In addition to the risk of skin cancer, UV light from tanning beds can also cause wrinkles. Our doctors recommend avoiding them altogether.
